i have been using my kindle a ton lately to read and check email... so it seemed appropriate to do a blog post from it! it never ceases to amaze me what the kindle can do. i needed a definition of voluntee the other day for a lesson plan and was able to look up the definition on the kindle while laying in bed. pretty amazing. just like before...please excuse the typos on this post. my fingers move faster tham the cursor does.
so whats been going on in my life lately? thanks to the wonderful world of facebook i was able to learn that oklahoma had a big storm or storms pass through it. hoping everyone is okay there. i still see pictures on facebook of the tucaloosa tornado effects. so much damage...but it looks like people are taking things as positively as they can and are moving forward.
sidenote:fireworks are going off right now in oster. this seems like a normal occurence now to me. very interesting at 10:30 at night...
anywho...it seems unbelievable to me that my hree months of training is almost up. i can carry on a conversation in a foreign language now....most of the time :)there are definitely days that my russian just doesnt want to happen. or there are days when i get letters mixed up that we use in the english alphabet but that have different sounds in the russian alphabet. the perfect example of this is the word PECTOPAH. this is the russian word for restaurant...and it uses all letters tat have different sounds. the P in russian is actually an R noise. the H in russian is actually a N sound. go figure. at least once week...we all have a goof up in language class where we try to sound out a word with the english letter sounds as opposed to the russian letter sounds. OR...like i did today...where my brain randomly switches to spanish and i said me gusta...as opposed to menea naraivitsa for 'i like...'. you just have to laugh and embrace it.
it is so weird for me to think about leaving oster in less than three weeks. i remember driving up to my house...with my host mom in the back seat with me. it was snowing when we arrived with all twelve of my bags. i rememebr getting lost on the second or third day here...thinking how confusing it is not to have a map. or even worse...not be able to use my iphone to ge directions for something. that sentence definitely embarrasses me by the way but its true. one of the things i love here is the fact that i dont sit and waste hours on the internet (which is funny to type when im writing a blog...onmy kindle of all things). but truly...back in the states the first thing i would do i the morning is check my email and facebook on my iphone while i lay in bed...barely able t see anything. i was able to do that last week in chernihiv at the pst university...and i felt guilty! its so amazing to see how caught up in technology i was and still am...but it definitely feels good to not rely on it so much. it ruled my life back in the states...and here i actually get to enjoy life in a different way.
i have never lived in a city where i relied solely on walking everywhere as my means of transportation. it was definitely an adjustment the first few weeks i was here...thinking if i wanted to walk someplace i needed to make the trip worthwhile. but i have a completely different outlook on walking around oster now. you can basically get anywhere you want in fifteen minutes or less. i am dying to get a pedometer to see how far i walk on some days. its refreshing to get the fresh air qand to say hi to people on the streets. i love th look of shock on a ukrainians face when ZDRASTVUTYE (hello) rolls off my tongue. its kind of a game to me now. and with less than three weeks left in oster it is sad to think that i will have to move again and get to know a new city and new people. however...that also brings a great excitement because that will be my permanent site for two yars...and i will truly become a member of that community. hopefully ha :)
i suppose ive rambled enough. hope this post made sense with my incorrect spelling thanks to no proofreading on th kindle .love love

This is great! It's strange to even think about what life would be like without an iPhone or computer at my fingerstips. I'm glad you are enjoying a break from our type of lifestyle.
Storms were pretty scary Tuesday night, I was sure we had a tornado coming straight for us, then it turned and as soon as it dissipated another one touched down on the other side of Norman. I think Grant is flying to Joplin tonight to check out the damage.
This is my favorite of all your blogs to date! It is fascinating to hear about the changes in your perspectives on the world. S lyubov'yu, P.
