the one with the apothecary table...

Recently, I have been helping my brother and his fiance design their living room. Perhaps I'll do another blog post of that (with their permission of course!). Anyway, we've been doing a lot of googling to find things on the internet (they live in New Hampshire...so it's a little bit hard for me to go shopping with them in person) for the room that they spend the most time in. One thing we've been looking at are apothecary jars. Let me take a slight detour and let you know that I cannot hear the word "apothecary" without immediately thinking of the Friends episode so perfectly titled, "The One with the Apothecary Table."

I am a Friends fanatic who loves incorporating Friends quotes into my everyday life at all times possible. Movie and TV quotes in general are always great to throw into normal conversations, but that's a whole 'nother blog post for another day. Back to apothecary jars...

Of course Pottery Barn has some of the best options around, but I feel like that is too simple an answer. While googling away, I stumbled across tons of pictures of apothecary jars that I absolutely drooled over. The contents of the apothecary jar are what usually made me want to run out and purchase whatever was inside of them immediately...so without further ado, here are some images to get your juices flowing!

Being the Interior Design graduate from the College of Architecture, I loved the old rulers and scales in the tall, skinny apothecary jar. You can get the jars themselves here.
I actually have one of these little guys (hint: mine did not come from PB. Try Ross for $5)

In my opinion, you can never go wrong with apples or pears (or anything green!) in a jar. They add so much life to a room. I love love love the apothecary jar on the right with the skinny based bottom.
Too much green? I don't think so. I believe this image is from Southern Accents magazine.
How pretty are all of the multi-colored and shaped soaps in the squatty apothecary jar?

How about some holiday decor? I've GOT to do this "boo" idea...however, you could also do something along these lines at a wedding or rehearsal dinner and do "_____ & _____" (their names), with one name in each jar. The wedding date might also be a cute option! I couldn't find any examples of vintage pictures in jars, but I've seen them also.
Antique ornaments...in a glass hurricane...on a tray? Yes, please!

This was at one of my great Interior Design friends rehearsal dinners (Casey and Collin!). The picture quality is not the best, but you get the idea! The theme for the desserts area was "Love is Sweet."
I stole this picture from another great Interior Design friend Kristen. One of her best friends recently tied the knot and had this adorable dessert section at the wedding.

Hope these images inspired you for some future apothecary ideas :)

Haha! You have to know that I would comment on a post that has to do with friends! Love the show and try to quote it as much as possible. Chris just doesn't get it when I do though. I wanted you to know that I have enjoyed your blog so much with all the updates on the mission trips and the interior design tips. You are so wonderful and I am glad we are friends! Keep it up with all of your passions and you can't go wrong in life! Hope to see you soon girly! Steph

Wowzaas. So first thought is the fireplcace picture looks like my wall color and I love the clean white with it but the oversimplicity of the plate design is gag. I can only imagine how cluttered that house would have to be to balance the over decorated fireplace. I love the transition ability of these decorations to change with the season as you wish. Next time can you work on apothecary shelves? I still need wall decor.

hahahaha Rosemary (the anonymous reader), you have to sign your name on yours! I will do a wall decor project soon. I agree though, I could never live with my fireplace being like that. TOO MUCH...but I still love it.

Steph, had no clue you were reading this but I'm SO glad you decided to comment on a Friends one. Maybe I'll try to incorporate more Friends references/quotes in my blog. That would be fun, don't you think?

I am SOOOO loving that you are referencing Friends. Keep doing it! I have actually been having Friends withdraws because I don't have a clue where my dvds are. Most likely in a box in the garage? Probably the one single remaining box I need to unpack that I haven't really needed thus far....it's time, I need those dvds!!! Oh, I am the exact same way with the word "Apothecary", can't NOT think of Phoebe freaking out about Pottery Barn :D
You should check out this company called "roost", they have super fantastic accessories and would be a great place to find apothecary jars.
One more thing, I also would be interested in a wall decor post. I think it's the most difficult, what do you think?

hahah Kristen, you're the second to want a wall decor post. It is difficult, but perhaps I am such a picture fanatic, I feel like everything can be fixed through pictures. Ha, that may or may not be the best ANSWER though.
